At Aberdeen International Airport, the group has appointed Portland Design to support a multi-million-pound retail transformation as part of its wider commercial redevelopment strategy. The project, valued at more than £2.5m, will see most retail and food and beverage units across the terminal refreshed or redeveloped over the next 16 months.
According to AGS Airports, the Aberdeen programme is intended to create a more modern and locally distinctive passenger experience, with design guidelines shaping future retail layouts, customer flow and commercial space. The work is part of the group’s broader “AGS Reimagined” strategy, which focuses on improving passenger experience, operational efficiency and commercial performance across its airports.
Alongside developments in Aberdeen, AGS recently also confirmed major progress on its wider £350m capital investment programme across Glasgow and Southampton airports (AIR news, 16 April). As part of this next phase, internationally recognised architectural practice Pascall + Watson and engineering consultancy WSP have been appointed as design partners.
The firms will work across the programme to shape future terminal layouts, passenger flow and overall airport environments. At Glasgow Airport, WSP and Pascall + Watson will jointly lead the terminal transformation, while WSP will take the lead design role at Southampton Airport.
The design phase is expected to focus on modernising infrastructure, improving passenger journeys and supporting long-term sustainability goals, with AGS describing the appointments as a key milestone in delivering its wider transformation strategy.
AGS Airports said the investment programme represents its largest capital commitment since the group was formed, with works aimed at supporting future growth in passenger numbers, enhancing regional connectivity and improving the overall airport experience.
Taken together, the Aberdeen retail upgrade and the wider Glasgow and Southampton redesign projects form part of a coordinated effort to modernise all three airports under a single long-term investment strategy.
