Egis appoints aviation director targeting UK and Ireland airport sector

Engineering and consultancy group Egis has appointed Shakir Khaja as Aviation Sector Director for Europe and Africa as the company seeks to expand its presence in the UK and Irish airport markets amid rising investment in aviation infrastructure.

Egis currently works with more than 100 airports in over 40 countries, providing services ranging from strategy and planning to engineering, project delivery and operational readiness.

The company said Khaja, who is based in London, will oversee growth across the airport sector with a focus on the UK, Ireland and wider European market. He joins from Arcadis, where he served as senior director for the aviation sector, and has more than 25 years of experience working on airport programmes including Heathrow Airport, London City Airport and Fraport Greece.

According to Egis, Khaja will work with airport operators and infrastructure clients on projects related to expansion, operational performance, sustainability and capacity optimisation as airports respond to growing passenger demand and decarbonisation requirements.

The appointment forms part of a broader push by Egis to increase its presence in the UK and Ireland, which the company has described as priority infrastructure markets. Earlier this year, the firm appointed Francois Basselot as managing director for the region as part of plans to integrate operations across transport, energy, rail and environmental sectors.

Khaja said, “Egis has a strong global reputation in aviation and a breadth of capability across airport advisory, development and operations. There is a clear opportunity to bring this expertise together more cohesively across the UK, Ireland and wider Europe and to work closely with airport partners to deliver long-term, sustainable value. I’m looking forward to building on this foundation and helping establish Egis as a trusted advisor to airports as they address the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
