Strzala Architects and Corgan appointed to MAG investment framework

Manchester-based Strzala Architects, working with US architecture and design firm Corgan, has been appointed to a consultancy framework supporting Manchester Airports Group’s (MAG) capital investment programmes over the next five years.

Strzala has secured a position on Lot 7 of the framework, covering RIBA Stages 1 and 2 architecture. The appointment will involve early-stage services including concept design, masterplanning and capacity planning for terminal and commercial developments across MAG’s airports.

MAG operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports. The group handled 66.3 million passengers in the year to 31 March 2026, while its latest figures show a rolling 12-month total of 66.6m passengers to June.

The appointment comes as MAG moves from the completion of its major investment programme at Manchester Airport towards a new phase of capital spending across its portfolio.

MAG said in its 2025/26 results that it invested £561.7m during the year. The group has also previously announced plans for a further £2.5bn of investment across its three airports over five years, including a £1.1bn programme at London Stansted.

At Manchester, MAG's £1.3bn transformation programme has expanded and modernised Terminal 2 and upgraded parts of the airport's infrastructure. The programme is intended to make greater use of the airport's existing two runways, with capacity expected to reach between 45m and 50m passengers a year as the transformation is completed.

MAG’s 2025/26 results said the group was nearing completion of the Manchester transformation and beginning investment at London Stansted.

The new consultancy framework is intended to provide MAG with architectural and design expertise as individual investment projects are developed. The appointment does not itself represent approval for specific construction projects or establish the value of work that Strzala and Corgan will subsequently undertake.

Strzala Architects has worked at Manchester Airport for more than 15 years and has been part of the MAG framework since 2020. The company said its partnership with Corgan combines local knowledge of MAG's operations with Corgan's international airport design experience.

Corgan's aviation portfolio includes work at more than 200 airports worldwide. Its London aviation and transportation practice is led by Pablo Codesido and Kat Leppard.
