BA unveils next phase of Heathrow lounge transformation with new T5 lounge
British Airways is to open a new lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5’s C Gates by the end of 2028 as part of a wider programme to redevelop its lounge facilities at the airport.

The airline said work is already under way on what it described as one of its largest and most ambitious lounge projects. The new facility will overlook the airfield and terminal concourse and will be based on British Airways’ latest lounge design concept.
The lounge will include areas for dining, relaxation and work, alongside pre-flight shower facilities. Its design will incorporate timber, glazing, metalwork, textiles and bespoke furnishings, with materials and finishes sourced from across the UK.
A 17m bar will form a central feature of the lounge. British Airways said it will be among the longest airport lounge bars in the world. A dedicated Concorde lounge will also provide First Class passengers with private concierge services, dining and more secluded spaces.
The Terminal 5 development is part of a broader plan to redesign all of British Airways’ Heathrow lounges over the coming years. The airline currently operates five lounges at Terminal 5.
British Airways is also planning a complete redevelopment of its Terminal 5 Arrivals lounge. Work is due to begin in early 2027, with the redesigned facility scheduled to open by the end of that year.
At Terminal 3, British Airways and American Airlines are also developing a new shared First Class check-in area. The facility is expected to open during the winter as part of the airlines’ wider transatlantic partnership.
The Heathrow programme follows recent British Airways lounge openings and refurbishments in locations including Miami, Glasgow, Seattle and Washington, with further work under way in Boston and Newark and planned at Geneva and San Francisco.
The investment forms part of British Airways’ wider customer-experience programme, which includes changes to its airport facilities and aircraft cabins. The airline announced a major retrofit of its Airbus A380 fleet earlier this week, with new and refurbished products planned across First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller cabins.
