Edinburgh Airport seeks new leader as Gordon Dewar steps down after 14 years
Gordon Dewar, the long serving CEO of Edinburgh Airport, has announced he will step down later in 2026. His departure triggers the recruitment of a new leader tasked with guiding Scotland’s busiest airport through its next expansion phase.
Edinburgh Airport has seen passenger numbers almost double during Dewar’s 14-year tenure, rising from around 9m in 2012 to nearly 17m by 2025, and has invested heavily in infrastructure and service enhancements.
The on-going investment programme - which could total close to £1bn over the next few years - is expected to focus on capacity upgrades, improving passenger experience and strengthening connectivity, although detailed plans have not yet been fully published.
Edinburgh Airport’s ownership structure, dominated by VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners, following a £1.27bn deal concluded in June 2024, positions it to pursue long term investment and expansion in facilities and operations.
The airport is widely seen as having a strategic role in Scotland’s transport network and economy, both as a gateway for tourism and business and as a centre for future infrastructure development.
Stewart Wingate, VINCI Airports Managing Director for the UK, on behalf of Edinburgh Airport owners VINCI Airports and GIP said, “Gordon is an extremely talented executive and has done a tremendous job at Edinburgh Airport over many years. He leaves with the thanks and best wishes of the Board. His legacy of a strong team, exceptional growth and a clear value driven strategy stands Edinburgh and its airport in good stead for the future.
“VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners have an established partnership at London Gatwick Airport and successfully extended their collaboration to Edinburgh Airport. This strengthened ownership structure positions Edinburgh Airport strongly as it embarks on the most ambitious capital investment programme in its history.”
